Pledge of Allegiance – Everyone

Welcome & Merry Christmas!

Thank you for another wonderful year as the Bright Area Business Association!

We’ve had a lot to be thankful for this year. A successful golf outing and Bright Parade. And a lot of work with Stellar Pathways for a potential huge grant to Dearborn County in which some of the funds will be used here in Bright. This was our first year of Bright Nights Concerts which brought neighbors out to listen to good music from local musicians and food from three of our member’s food trucks. Each year we keep growing and doing amazing things, in part to all the work that each of you put into BABA and making it successful so thank you for all you do!

Thank you to our sponsors:

New Business

Membership Report – Mark Munchel

  • Reminder that next month, those that have paid their yearly dues will be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift card to one of our members’ businesses

 Treasurer Report – Nick Bader

Corporate Transparency Act Filing (CTA)-Beneficial Ownership Information Report (BOIR)

A discussion ensued about how to proceed with the Texas suit in place. One business’s accountant said he would file the report for $200; another businesses attorney said to complete the form to make sure you are covered. A brief overview of the issue is bulleted below. A PDF from the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCen) can be found at this link: BOIR

  • The CTA was enacted by Congress on January 1, 2021, as part of the National Defense Authorization Act.  The CTA included significant reforms to anti-money laundering laws and is intended to help prevent and combat money laundering, terrorist financing, corruption, and tax fraud.
  • As part of this act, small businesses in the United States were told they need to file beneficial ownership information reports (BOIR) with the Department of the Treasury by January 1, 2025.
  • Now a federal district court, states that the CTA is likely unconstitutional, and issued an order Tuesday prohibiting the enforcement of the CTA and the beneficial ownership information (BOI) reporting rule in the CTA’s accompanying regulations.
  • “Under the injunction, FinCEN is barred from enforcing BOI filing requirements while the case is pending,” the statement said.

 2025 Meetings

  • Each quarter we try to have a meeting at Bright Lion’s Club to touch on regular BABA updates and events
  • We also like to have a member spotlight, either at the member’s place of business, or at a place of their choosing…could be at Bright Lion’s, coffee shop, restaurant, etc
  • We also like to have a not so formal meeting over lunch at one of our member’s businesses
  • By focusing on our member’s businesses, we learn more about one another and are given the opportunity to see their workspace or really delve into what they do on a daily basis. Our goal is to know each other and what we do so we can recommend our co-members to people looking for that service.
